The Art of The Possible

“I
wrote my will across the sky in stars.”
Lawrence of Arabia
To some, stars are mere dots in the sky. To sea captains, they are
navigational aids. To poets, they are heavenly inspiration. To
astronomers and new age astrologers, stars are instruments which God
created to harness time - to structure the un-measurable and infinite, or
the absurd… God invented time so nothing would appear to occur
simultaneously, so there would be order instead of chaos, so we could
experience things and events chronologically and thereby learn and grow
spiritually. The stars do not force us, yet they can guide us by
displaying the secret and esoteric "writing on the wall" of the
celestial firmament. Mapping the future in the now is what this knowing
is to help us. This book explains what I know.
How can we decipher the encrypted code that God left us before He
set time in motion? The content of this book and its card deck is
designed in a way to attempt an answer through spiritual astrology and
High Magic, or the art of the possible, as opposed to the preconditioned
and fated. Spiritual astrology, the clock of destiny, is a road map to fulfilment. We must watch this charted course very
carefully as we enter the third millennium with its promise of new
beginnings, and with its inherent dangers.
Let us see if we can find a path through the maze of space-time
and discover where we came from, where we are headed to, and who we
actually are. As we can see, the world did not end with the year 2000,
nor was there a societal meltdown of panic and fear caused by the media
hype over "Y2K." However, the world will change as we humans
transform ourselves.
The concept of "Y2K" associated with the year 2000 is to
be seen as a type of informational warfare designed to keep humanity
fear-based; yet, in actuality, it is a powerful spiritual metaphor for a
massive upgrade in a new form of human consciousness. We need to change
the collective programming of our brains in order to see further and
evolve-to take responsibility for our own transformation. Additionally, we
need to increase our memory database to include an understanding of the
overall picture, our possible future, and the remembrance of who we
really are.
The Age of Aquarius posits precisely that question: Who are WE?
During the Age of Leo, 13,000 years ago, when the architects of the
pharaohs built the beautiful, majestic sphinx-the Lion body with the
human face-and the pyramids in Cairo, humanity asked, “Who am I?” While
the Age of Leo focused on one man, the Pharaoh, and his infinitely clever
Magician, or high priest, the Age of Aquarius is concerned with the whole
of humanity as one-our group. On a spiritual level, "Y2K"
symbolized the switching of the microchip in the collective memory from me
to us - and moving on with this new perspective.
Now is the time to create our new lives, as the three dimensional
“real” world spins out of control. The years ahead are about how we
transform our world into a magical life…
The
"Millennium
Signature"
in the Sky
As the millennium began on January 1, 2000, the moon was in
Scorpio, signifying that now is the time to face our fears and
bring light into the shadows of the subconscious. It is time to exert
control over our reflexes and eliminate, or let go, of outworn and
outgrown emotional reactions as well as plutonic (chaotic and
undermining) relationships.
The Scorpio moon has a dark, cynical stinger, yet its vibrational qualities are also compassionate,
profoundly psychic, and artistic. The moon is at its most powerful when
in Scorpio (I had this position at birth, as did Steven Spielberg,
Charlie Chaplin, Jimmy Carter, Harry Truman, and Eric Clapton). Be
grateful that God has timed the night of the millennium with a Scorpio
moon, so we can all face our fears and win by so doing. Victories need
challenges. Without challenges, there are no victories. The psychic
Scorpio moon is in esoteric terms also the high flying and far seeing
eagle. The 25 years ahead bring the challenge of surfacing fears with the
strength to face and overcome what we most dread. The new age started
with the rising of the Southern Cross in mid Scorpio.
While we must face some form of our fears every day, we can
control this anxiety. Even though fear is an emotion, based on thoughts,
it must transform into a thought that is manageable. We can change our
fear-based thought processes into faith or hope-based concepts and
ultimately create magical ideas that transform our lives and our planet
Earth.
We are and/or become what we think, as Biblical scriptures and
philosophers suggest. Our bodies are merely temporal vessels for our
souls: The eternal portion of our being is formless thought. Whether we
acknowledge it or not, we create our world and ourselves by the power of
our thoughts. We need to use this precious gift more often and consciously
to think magical thoughts and dream magical dreams. Magic is simple; any
child can do it. As we grow up, we tend to forget the power of
imagination - it is all mere thought. High Magic, however, is calm,
deliberate, linear, focused thought - the art of transformation in tune
with Spirit, God, and the Universe.
This new millennium, the world of thought, is all about High Magic
- Spiritual magic - or the power from within to transform and to re-align
the stars of fate. Now we are leaving the past and our prisons of
experiences behind us as we move into the future, free, independent,
reborn, and questing toward the unknown. We have reached the point where
we cannot measure the un-measurable; science, quantum physics in
particular, faced with the non-proven has crossed over into the realm
of thought where the mind of the observer effects what is seen. Perhaps
that is how God planned the Universe, leaving free space for the
creativity of the human mind.
As Shakespeare wrote, "We see what we believe, as certainly
as we believe what we see." Formerly, we believed something only
if we saw it, but now the opposite applies. We must believe it in order
to see it. In other words, we must mean what we think and intend it to
materialize in space-time. Every intentional thought is an act of High
Magic, as is every intentional act; both of 'which will have an effect on
us and our experiences.
Stepping into the unknown requires courage, or grace under
pressure. Yet, at the same time, it is as natural and effortless as the
sun rising, water flowing, grass growing, or our breathing. We just do it
by living each day as it comes. Yesterday was not more or less unknown
than the day before, yet it is now past and completed as if it has gone
the way of the Trojan War or the Middle Ages. However, tomorrow is no
more unknown than today was yesterday. There are patterns of the past
reflected in the future vortex of times ahead.
Obviously, there is a vast difference between yesterday and
tomorrow. We cannot shape yesterday. We can only give it a different
interpretation. But we can and must shape tomorrow. As surprising as it
may seem, the future will look just the way we think it will based on the
creative power of our thoughts. That, in essence, is High Magic, which
includes predictions, divination, and the art of change, also known as
transformation.
What we experience in our existence is based on our expectations.
If we anticipate the worst, "Y2K” problems, wars, famine, upheaval,
and ecological disasters, we will encounter trials and unhappiness.
However, if we expect the future to be fun, then we could experience such
manifestation as new love relationships and babies or interesting travels
and adventures. However, we need to know what lies ahead in realistic
terms of the extended now; I discuss this in detail in my books “Icons
of Destiny” & “Passage To Peace”.
We will – on the other hand – learn that we live that which we
predict. So why not simply imagine, think, dream, and visualize such
magical outcomes as love, health, wealth, prosperity for all, a united
and clean world, and a peaceful planet. If all the billions of people on
earth would think such thoughts, we would be well on the way to
experiencing an economic boom lasting a whole generation in a millennium
Golden Age. According to high tech astrologers and scientific gurus, the
last time the planets aligned as they did in January 2000 and the months
that followed, was during the reign of Thuthmosis
III, the Pharaoh under which the Egyptian civilization experienced its height
of glory.
There may be golden ages, but there are no ordinary moments
according to a philosopher of the Socratic School. Every moment counts
and is important. Live in the moment; focus on what is happening now.
Don't plan details too far in advance and thereby limit the manner in
which the good you desire materializes in your life.
Remember the saying, “People plan, God laughs”. Leave space in
your plans for the Universal order of Spirit to manifest. Although we
should plan only for the short term, as Magicians, we can predict what
the future will bring if the present events run their full course. Yet we
can change a potential outcome by transforming our thoughts and actions
to affect a different future possibility. We cannot change some events such
as the track of a predicted hurricane, for example. However, even in this
instance, we can change our thought, attitude, and reaction to it. We can
let our fear paralyze us, we can prepare for it, or we can move out of
its path. Hence, no future prediction is "cast in stone". There
is always the variable of freewill and the possibility for change in
harmony with Divine Order.
While retaining our traditional trust in God's Universal plan, we
need to develop a new belief for this dawning millennium, which is a
faith in ourselves in tune with the guidance of Spirit. The greatest
challenge we face at this time is one of opening ourselves to new
realities; owning, controlling, and focusing the enormous unlimited,
creative, nuclear power of thought within each of us. Are we willing to
take the necessary risks? Do we have the courage to venture into new
galaxies of space and time? However, the central problem for humanity
remains the right application of technology. Are we using thought to
invent new bombs or to invent new medicine? To conquer other parts of the
world or outer space? To teach people or to destroy people?
Are we using the Internet to bridge gaps, to read divination
cards, and to bring the peoples of the world closer together? On the
other hand, are we showing children how to assemble a nuclear device?
Therein resides our challenge.
The challenges that face us at the dawning of this new millennium
are mirrored in the planetoid of magic, Chiron, seen by some as the death
star, which was conjunct to the transforming avatar Pluto in Sagittarius.
Chiron & Pluto started the journey jointly in Sagittarius at the same
spot in 1999/2000 while this hand book was designed and texted. These two heavenly bodies were also conjunct,
but in the sign of Leo, during 1941 when the United
States entered into war with Japan.
In 2010, in the constellation of Aquarius, Chiron will conjoin Neptune, a cosmic channel of spirituality. Chiron
and Neptune last conjoined in Virgo when the United
States dropped an atomic bomb on Japan in
1945 with devastating results. The influence of Chiron can heal or wound;
teach to transform and produce magic or instruct for demolition and
effect death. In the Aquarian Age of the World Wide Web, we can, for
example, either disseminate ideas for spiritual growth or provide the
plans for constructing nuclear bombs. Chiron is thus the planetoid to
track, while the choices for right action are ours.
Dawn of A New Age
Believe it or not, but we are actually moving toward a Golden Age,
a time of ascension, but not everyone wants it. We may have to fight for
the better world we desire. The struggle will be within the mind, heart,
and spirit of each individual. This battle has already begun and is a
secret spiritual conflict; an informational warfare of ideas and
thoughts. Indeed, it is the realm of High Magic. The ultimate outcome
will be according to Universal Order, for Spirit always guides High
Magic.
Although the High Magic of astrology appears not to be as precise
as the science of astronomy, its foundation is firmly based on intuition
and the understanding of cosmic law, or balance. Aided by inspiration,
astrology works with the universal languages of art and metaphor by
comparing such apparently unrelated things as stars and humans.
However, the magical reality of quantum physics reveals that stars
and humans are indeed interconnected. The ancient truth “as above - so
below” encourages us to discover what we need to know through reading
"signs" in the heavens. Yet modern astrology is not about what
must be; it is about what we can do - a vastly different understanding of
this ancient art. The divine rights of free will and choice reign supreme
in the art of modern astrology, just as they do in the technology of
science.
The "signs" in the heavens report that Pluto (the
powerful ruler of death, transformation and rebirth) entered the centaur
constellation of Sagittarius (the seeker of truth) in 1995 and will spend
years in this sign of religion, law and order, morality, spirituality,
publishing, higher learning, and freedom. Chiron (the ruler of Magic) has
now joined Pluto in Sagittarius. Their meeting, conjunct to an arc-minute
on the night of January 1, 2000, manifested the "millennium
signature" which signified the healing of humanity's wounded power
and pride as well as the regeneration of our knowledge, science,
technology; and, last but not least, our spiritual faith in ourselves,
our Cosmic origin, and in the Universe itself.
Chiron joined Pluto in the 12th Sagittarius degree of the Sabian symbol with its keyword of
"adjustment" and the reading, "A flag that turns into
an Eagle." May the eagle fly and turn into a
"Chanticleer," a rooster, saluting the dawn of this new age,
for the millennium was birthed with this signature. In 1953, Marc Edmund
Jones interpreted the meaning of the 12th degree Sagittarius Sabian as "a symbol of balance which every
individual must maintain between the established allegiances which create
the substance of his conscious selfhood and be idealized ambitions by
which he is self-sustained as an identity in his own right." In
other words, the individual must maintain successful self-establishment
through genuine self-expression.
The above interpretation suggests that we all, as human beings of
the new millennium, must present our own version of ourselves;
particularly our spiritual nature if we are to have character. Yet our
personality ought not to conflict with whatever is necessary to survive,
physically and spiritually. Actualizing our spiritual nature must not
result in physical death, nor should physical survival compromise our
spirituality.
Spiritual understanding is revealed and refined through the
tireless struggles of the individual with the situations presented
moment-by-moment within the space-time experience. During this dawning
millennium, the individual will explore new ways of seeing the face of
God. The flag that becomes an eagle in the Sabian
symbol suggests new forms of relating to the sacred in the Aquarian Age
Universe.
Lined up directly with Earth, Chiron (symbol of the Magician,
astrologer, and shaman), joining with Pluto (icon of wealth, nuclear
power, and transformation), is here to teach us a new holistic worldview.
Together in the sign of Sagittarius, these two planets mirror a new
spirituality and creative methods for integrating teaching and learning,
psychology, astrology, sociology, quantum physics, cosmology, and High
Magic; new professors teaching at universities with an innovative
curriculum designed for holistic learning.
The content of the Atlantis Oracle and the new card deck
are but one manifestation of what will eventually become a movement of
integrated understanding of a better world.
In essence, Chiron is ushering in a paradigm suggesting to all of
us how we must change in this new millennium. In birth charts, Chiron
shows where we need to claim responsibility for transformation. In a few
years, when Chiron moves into Aquarius, this vibration will help us
evaluate and restructure our treatment of each other on a universal
scale. In 2010, when Chiron conjuncts Neptune,
planet of spirituality, the doors of perception will open for all of us.
I predict that by then, the new drug of choice will be a humanitarian and
holistic high - legal, democratic, and free. Faith will replace the
fragmentation of Tower
of Babel knowledge.
There is a potential for false spirituality, false gods, shadow light,
and a misguided or very deceptive one-world religion: Beware of this
future!
I feel that all of these changes will lead to a deeper trusting of
ourselves –faith in our own link with Spirit, the non
or un-manifest, God, the Universe, or Cosmos – as opposed to a reliance
on what priests, rabbis, or muezzins tell us in schools or places of
worship. The individual human heart in tune with Spirit will replace
organized religions with their structured dogmas. We will seek others who
think as we do and form teams, communities, corporations, and movements
with a common goal.
We will take steps to heal individual and group power on this
planet, preparing to take our place as responsible members of this
interplanetary and intergalactic society; and we will live according to
an ancient law, that is expressed quite simply as “HARM NONE!”
Since the Godhead is everywhere, you are a part – an emanation -
of Him. Your body is your temple, or the vessel of your soul, the who you are, who you were and who you will be, all
in one. Your body includes the Universe of stars that appear out there:
As above - so below.
You do not need ten new commandments or a salaried “preacher.”
Perhaps you need only one commandment, and that is, “Live in the
moment in tune with the Spirit!” On the other hand, maybe you need
one hundred commandments - those you make up for yourself. As long as you
respect other peoples' beliefs, you are on the right track. On the other
hand, we will see in the book “Passage To Peace” why ‘beliefs’ as such
are also a curse, although they form the map to destiny.
Let go of the old; discover your own path. Follow your own
intuition, but be spiritually humble, tolerant, loving, and understanding
of others. It does not matter where you go to “worship” as long as you
mean what you pray inside your own building - your body, heart, and mind.
If your will and thoughts are in perfect cosmic alignment with God's and
the Universal Order, Magic will happen - your will and His will be One -
you, your life, and the world will transform. You were born to transform
yourself and to change the world with it. This book of highest magic will
teach you how to achieve this. Studying and applying this knowing will
take you time; so sit back and enjoy the process as you take it in…
According to an ancient Chinese proverb, it is wise to call things
by their proper names. It is also prudent to define the exact meaning of
concepts that may have various definitions and connotations in other
cultures or ‘belief systems’. Therefore, some important key terms used in
this text are defined here to reveal the author's intended meanings for a
better understanding of this divination hand book.
High Magic: The art of
causing change or transformation in the manifest world of the universe
through the un-manifest, by the use of thought and in accordance with the
higher will and divine order. High Magic causes the unlikely or the
improbable to occur, which is perceived by others as "luck" or
"coincidence." High Magic is demonstrated by synchronicity,
which means the co- incidence of meaningful events of importance with no
distinguishable causal connection, according to psychiatrist Carl Gustav
Jung. High Magic is consciously intended. It is an art, neither “good”
nor "bad;” neither "Black Magic" nor "White
Magic." In this book, the word "Magic” refers to High Magic as
defined above. A "Magician” is a human being who practices High
Magic.
Destiny: Fulfillment
of the highest potential of a human being, given by the un-manifest at
birth. To follow it requires being all one can be. To achieve that,
destiny demands full actualization and complete appliance of all the
talents or abilities given at birth. Destiny is "what is meant to
be," quite to the contrary of fate or fatality. There are many
fates – an array of infinite possibilities - but only one of them is
destiny, which is the best, or optimal, of all the possible fates.
Fate: A series of
events, thoughts, and actions that form the pattern of a life. Fate is
often confused with destiny or used in the narrow context of death and
dying or other events usually perceived as negative. What we actually do
with our life, as opposed to what we could do with it, is our fate,
whereas the highest potential of what we could do is our destiny.
Oracle: (1) Either
obscure utterance or the authoritative, influential pronouncement given
by a Magician or high priest as a response from the un-manifest to an
inquiry; (2) scriptures, divine communication, revelation, or prophecy;
(3) a person serving as a medium giving the response, or
"divination;" (4) an utterance made or received as
authoritative, wise, inspired, and spiritual; or, the highly esteemed,
the ultimate and extremely consequential and influential, or portentous
pronouncement. A divination is a type of oracle.
Space-Time: The
four-dimensional continuum consisting of the three spatial (height,
width, depth) and one temporal (time) coordinates in which all physical
and measurable quantities can be located by the extension of the physical
reality (model) existing within this continuum. Space can also be time
when used in a term such as "in the space of four hours."
Space-time is another term for the visible cosmos, or manifested
universe.
Astrology: The clock of
destiny; the study of the art and science of the stars in synchronicity
with human experience, for space-time is harnessed by the stars.
Un-manifest: (1) The
formless foundation and source of all existence - God or Spirit, Universe
or Cosmos - unknowable within the space-time continuum; (2) the non
measurable entity beyond perception within the higher self, or the
higher, or pure will.
Spirit: (1) That
which mediates between body and soul; the spiritual component of a human
being that separates from the body at death; (2) the divine influence
animating and inspiring a human being; the usage of “spirit"
represents the opposite of "ego," not from a judgmental
position, but to signify the higher, or true, self; (3) a supernatural
being.
Ego: The
"lower" self as perceivable, constituting a human being,
including body, mind, thought, memory, senses, feeling, emotion,
sensation, and identity. The true, or "higher," self (as
opposed to the lower self) can be perceived only indirectly by the
positive influence it exerts on the lower self. The higher self is the
"real" center of awareness in a human being. This true self,
having its essence in Spirit, is the gateway by which a Magician accesses
the non manifest.
Universal / Cosmic Law: The harmonious evolution of space-time, its progress, and
purpose. All of creation, including the smallest cell, has its purpose in
the unfolding of cosmic law. By the use of free will, it is possible for
a human being to oppose cosmic law for a brief period of space-time.
However, universal law functions as a power to balance human discord. The
balancing of cosmic law appears as a ledger in the Akashic
records of space-time, wherein is written the purpose of evolution, or
human destiny.
Magic Circle: The defining
limit or boundary of a person, thing, thought, or place – dividing it
from everything else to establish its identity and sphere of influence.
Even a name can be considered a magic circle. Circles as used in rituals
of magic are symbolic extensions of this definition. A gesture is enough
to cast a magic circle and project the power of thought. For example, a
forefinger extended as a sword's laser beam with the intent to cut
through a point or the extended palm of the hand raised
in a circle to establish a shield for protection. Although quantum
physics might dismiss the magic circle as merely thought, it is,
nonetheless, a most powerful tool of the Magician.
Magician: A human being
who uses High Magic to fulfill his and others' destiny in accordance with
Cosmic Law. A Magician is a living medium or conduit through which the
light of Spirit, or the non manifest, expresses itself
in the space-time world of form. A Magician could also be defined as
someone who knows his or her destiny and live, or acts to fulfill it.
Manifest: The universe
of form, or that which is perceivable in space-time, including thoughts
and dreams. Anything that can be named, thought, sensed, or seen is part
of the manifest, as opposed to the un-manifest (as defined above).
Divination: The practice
of foreseeing or foretelling events and of discovering seemingly hidden
meaning or knowledge, by way of High Magic. Divination is the intuitive
perception and instinctive foresight of an event, situation,
circumstance, action, or thought of someone else. Ultimately, divination
flows from an inherent understanding of cosmic law. In addition to
intuitively accessing present and future events, divination is effective
for seeing into the past and revealing previously hidden events in their
context. Divination transcends time in its moment-by-moment ability to
focus within what is perceived as the past, present, or future.
This electronic hand book is designer science for the mind, or
High Magic, to use the term we just defined. Clients encouraged me to
describe what I have experienced and asked me to explain what I know to
be true. Here, in a "nutshell," is the theory behind what I
call The New Millennium Designer High Magic.
Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity in essence
postulated that time and large bodies of mass, such as stars, distort
space. Only in the last few years have state-of-the-art and cutting edge
designer propositions been made in the domain of quantum physics and
cosmology that can be seen probing the underpinning of the principles of
High Magic. This is the domain of the vortex theory.
Science has long ridiculed the art of magic and its basic
underlying laws. High Magic will triumph over simple science. However,
with the rise of such brilliant and celebrated men as Carl Gustav Jung,
Carl Sagan, Joseph Campbell, Stephen Hawking,
and physicist John Wheeler, we have entered a revolutionary and expanding
zeitgeist similar to the time of Galileo and Newton, an era that seems
like the Dark Ages to Aquarius Age Magicians. Welcome to the theory of
millennial designer magic – the vortex and his master – in which realm
the line of demarcation between science and magic becomes obscure, or non existent.
Do you remember the Uncertainty Principle, which not only states
but also necessitates that it is impossible to predict both the position
and motion of a particle? (We will discuss this later.) Electrons, we now
know, tunnel their way through both space and time while appearing to
leap "magically" from points A to Z without ever travelling between these two positions. I call that
designer High Magic.
Today, physicists seriously speculate that by hurling yourself
through the abyss of a black hole (were this humanly possible), you may
also travel through time. The vortex theory that was presented in 2003
stipulates – and I predicted it in 1998 – that we will discard
practically all known sciences, since the notions of time, space, motion,
energy, light, sound, matter, and dark matter, and all that connects
these dots will be totally redefined, thus science as such will be
rewritten very shortly when my new cosmology will be validated.
Very radical experimenters have indeed designed the first time
machines. Once we can muster enough energy, we may then actually do this
ultimate act of High Magic - the conquering of both time and space.
Concerning another interesting scientific theory, that of “cause and
effect,” Sir Isaac Newton said that if the initial position of everything
in the universe were known, we could then calculate all subsequent
events. Today, quantum physicists and chaos theory have proven, quite to
the contrary, that even when all causes are known in advance, it remains
forever impossible to determine, predict, or foresee all the effects.
Which theory is true? What do you feel? Who is to know the truth?
The universe, self organizing breathing entity, which is a single
song or one verse, is inherently a gigantic uncertainty. Indeed,
it now seems the outcome of this inter-galactic uncertainty may be
conditioned by the mind of the beholder. Ultimately, the modern
"magic" of science may simply state that we do not observe
"reality" as passive spectators, but rather, co-create it
moment by moment with the universe as our participant in this great game
of designer High Magic.
Because of the obvious dearth of material proof, so-called
"mainstream science" denies this co-creation of reality as
fiercely as the Inquisition negated Christopher Columbus's right to go
and find out if the Earth was indeed a sphere. In the same manner as Columbus, I have
checked and found out that High Magic exists. You can make the same
discovery. All you need is a little faith and you will see it when you
believe it, but not vice-versa. This is the threshold of a new age. It is
the time to test the “occult” and see if designer divination, hidden from
the view of the unaware, really works.
In the introduction to his book, New Millennium Magic,
theoretical magician Donald Tyson wrote that the purpose of the universe
might very well be the evolution of intelligent beings capable of
observing this universe. In other words, the Magicians. Scientists are
discovering that the universe is essentially and inherently
"unknowable," for nothing is determinable with absolute
certainty. Some scientists now accept what appears to be a form of
"High Magic" as a final portal to understanding. By speculating
about matters that seem "magical" - such as the fact that
reality as we know it is conditioned by our perception, yet everything is
uncertain and nothing is predictable - scientists risk their livelihood,
reputation, and ultimately their sanity if they attempt to remain within
the realm of mainstream thought.
Trying to measure the un-measurable or un-manifest is absurd. A
magician may muse about such subjects, but he is regarded by most of
society as a "lunatic" anyway. As independent thinkers,
magicians are leaders rather than followers; somewhat like generals
without armies or teachers without schools. If you agree with this, in
theory at the very least, you are encouraged to read on using your own
thought process rather than conventional "scientific" thinking.
Acknowledging the subjective and uncertain nature of what we
observe, our "reality," is anathema to conventional thinking,
while "believing in order to see" is a fundamental principle of
High Magic. One reason we have progressed so far in our thinking, so that
we can now consider what we formerly thought was absurd, is the fact that
we have just about "out-thought" traditional science, or the
reality models as we previously knew them.
We have now reached the outer limits with the Relativity Theory,
Uncertainty Principle, quantum mechanics, multidimensional geometry, and
super-string theories put forth by Bell,
Einstein, Heisenberg, Wheeler, Sagan, Hawking,
and others. We have gone beyond the pale and across the abyss. The
smartest minds in cosmology and mathematics are now forced to journey
into the realm of the formless and un-proven, the world of pure thought,
which may seem to them an alien and moral wasteland - the dark side of
the moon. Nevertheless, to the Magician it is paradise - the domain of
High Magic.
In order to enter this realm of the formless and go beyond what we
now know, we must be willing, as Edgar Allen Poe once envisioned, to dream the dream no ordinary man has ever dared to
dream. As he wrote in a famous poem, "All that we see or seem is
but a dream within a dream.” We must be willing, as the theoretical
magician, Donald Tyson, suggests, "to think
magic thoughts and dream magic dreams." We will then be freed
from our prison of conditioned thought and experience. It is one thing to
think magic thoughts on the level of a theoretical magician or write
about them as a scholar magician of the stature of the late AI Crowley;
but it is something else altogether to elaborate a theory that actually
works in daily practice – to create applied High Magic.
Were I living in the 12th Century (and certainly I was), I might
have been burned at the stake for my beliefs, unless I was the Commander
of the Knights Templars’ last bastion. Yet
miracles, magic, mystery, and madness are always closely enmeshed in the
fine line that is soon erased between science and mysticism.
Moses cast down his rod before the Pharaoh and it became a
serpent. That act was accepted as a miracle. He parted the Red Sea. That was also considered a miracle, just
as was Jesus walking on water. However, an Egyptian Hierophant, or high
priest, performing supernatural feats is condemned for practicing
wizardry, sorcery, blasphemy, or magic. Interestingly, the oriental root
of the word "magician" - "magus" - actually means
“priest or wise man.” In today's terminology, he would be considered a
philosopher or leader of men.
As W. Somerset Maugham wrote in The
Razor's Edge, "Unfortunately sometimes one can’t do what one
thinks is right without making someone else unhappy."
That too is the consequence of high magicians and our applied
theories. The boon of applied High Magic is that it enables us to tap
into the boundless universe of spirit and gives a sense of purpose to an
otherwise seemingly hopeless existence. The powerful archetypes harnessed
by High Magic can be seen as emanations of the Divine, forming a link
